Free but compulsory base education

The expenses funded by taxes

The base education in Finland is free of charges to parents but also compulsory not only for the children but also for the municipalities to organize. The expenses are 5 billion EUR (5 000 MEUR) and the expenses of one year and child are 8 000 – 10 000 EUR. The expenses varies because of the need of free school transportations (over 3-5 kilometers) in different parts of Finland (one reason, the other is that some municipalities have more resources to buy new equipments for the pupils).

Good motivated teachers

The teachers are very well educated in the universities and their profession is respected (yet) and the salary is little bit over the average wage (3 300 euros a month). It is also a permanent position differing from all others nowadays (but how long?). So the qualification of base education is good because of the motivated teachers.

Wages in Europe

The wages of the teachers in Finland are quite low if we compare them in Europe.
